Domino V11 TLS Cipher Configuration

More on HCL Domino V11 - this time on the updated (finally!) configuration of TLS ciphers for your internet protocols! I know - you couldn't wait for this exciting new feature as you really enjoy maintaining notes.ini parameters! This means the the ol’ SSLCipherSpec isn't needed any longer as we can use the Internet Site doc to configure the ciphers now. But there is some work that needs to be done as you upgrade your existing servers to the new release. [Read More]

Domino V11 New Web Authentication Options

I have upgraded my lab server to Domino V11 and have started checking some of the new features out. First up, the new option to authenticate web users with their Notes ID passwords from the ID Vault. This is a really nice feature that is working as designed. This basicall allows you to not use the Internet password field for users that have their IDs in the vault, so that's one less place you have to maintain a password - nice! [Read More]

Domino V11 and Connections 6.5 Global Launch Video

Earlier today, HCL had a global launch event for Domino v11 and Connections 6.5 in Tokyo. For those that couldn't attend, there is now a video posted on YouTube that replays the event

Check it out. I was still asleep (Pacific time zone) when it happened, so I'll be looking at it and will have some comments.

Congrats to HCL on the new release and products!

Observations on Upgrading to v10.0.1 - Domino, Traveler, Verse on Prem

I spent a little time this morning upgrading a Domino server from 10.0 to 10.0.1. Upgrading Domino, Traveler and Verse on Prem took about 15 minutes. Got to love those simple upgrades. Only wish some other products were that simple. That isn't to say there wasn't any issue. This was a Windows box and when the Domino service started, it failed with an error. Event viewer said the error number was 7024, but didn't offer any help at all. [Read More]

Initial impressions on IBM Verse On-Premises 1.0

NOTE: This is a “first impression” post after working with VOP for a few hours. I didn't participate in the betas, so this is a fresh experience. So, as has been announced on the interwebs today, IBM Verse On-Premises 1.0 (VOP) was made available for download today. Part number: CNDG8ML We had some time today, so Chris Whisonant and I installed it and setup the integration with Connections. So Chris did the Domino side and I handled the Connections side. Location Document Mailserver Field - What Not to Use

Working with a client recently on some policy setting updates and we ran into an issue where the new policy wasn't taking effect on his client. We made the change to the policy (in this case an Archive policy) and could see that it had been processed and applied to the mail file. Checking the user's Notes client, the link to the Archive was not showing up. I opened up the ($Policies) view in the user's local names. [Read More]

Installing Domino on Linux - Resolving Missing Requirements

Recently, I was installing the Domino 9.0 Social Edition on a new CentOS 6 Linux install. It started very smoothly, the CentOS install went very well and the system updates worked flawlessly. I prepped the notes user and group and was ready to install the Domino code. Then it came to a screeching stop. The installer stopped with the message below: To run this installer you need 32bit (i686) packages installed on your 64 bit Linux Redhat. [Read More]

Missing Rules Tab in Server Document?

Admittedly, this is an issue that is a fringe, but thought I'd post it just in case. Yesterday, I was working to configure a client's server to use mail journaling. Everything was going smooth until I went to edit a server configuration document to add the mail rule for a couple of servers. The Rules tab was missing. I was on the Admin client, so I tried it from the Notes client and the tab showed up. [Read More]
